November 2018, the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) supported by GIZ held a three days training course on “MRV for sustainable transport” at GreenTech Malaysia training centre. The training took place on the heels of the cooperation agreement signed in October 2018, by both GIZ and GreenTech Malaysia to join forces in the training of government officials on the assessment and monitoring of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions. GreenTech Malaysia is the partnering training institution for Malaysia, as a government subsidiary agency that focuses on boosting the growth of green technology experts and spearheads the national green growth & sustainability mapping and GHG reporting for Malaysia.
The ten training participants were technical experts from GreenTech Malaysia and policy advisors from ministries, working on sustainable transport (low carbon mobility and green transport technologies). This training was customised to meet the specific requirements of the participants, to elevate their technical capacity in data based planning for future national and city level blueprints and national action plans. The course covered are MRV implementation, data management &analysis, emission calculation and mitigation actions for sustainable transport sector.
The participants stated that the step by step learning process, from easier to more advanced topics, paired with an interactive and engaging teaching approach has made learning of even complex emission calculations easier and fun!
From 2019 onwards, GreenTech Malaysia is all geared up to offer at least one module/course training per-month, collaborating with internal low carbon & mobility projects, related government agencies & city councils and the local universities.
