MAKATI CITY—The Philippines will host the 3rd Meeting of ASEAN’s Expert Group on Sustainable Land Transport (EGSLT) and three related events from November 27 to December 1, 2017, following Thailand which hosted it in March 2017. Officials and experts from ASEAN Member States (AMS) and from international organisations will again convene for the back-to-back knowledge sharing workshops in the areas of sustainable land transport strategy in Asia, fuel economy policies, and data and indicators for sustainable transport.
The 3rd EGSLT Meeting will be held from Thursday to Friday, November 30 to December 1, 2017, while its related events include the 3rd Forum of the ASEAN Fuel Economy Platform and the 4th Regional Workshop on Sustainable Transport Indicators to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 28 and 29, respectively. These events are aimed at providing inputs to developing ASEAN plans for more sustainable transport systems.
The ASEAN Fuel Economy Platform shall discuss goals, approaches and key recommendations for fuel economy policy among government representatives from the ASEAN and invited experts.
Furthermore, the workshop on Sustainable Transport Indicators shall discuss regional guidelines on indicators on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. This event shall also start the discussion on an action plan for a harmonized and coordinated collection of the indicators in the ASEAN.
These upcoming regional plans are building blocks towards fulfilling ASEAN’s Kuala Lumpur Strategic Plan 2016-2025, which has a goal to: “Formulate a regional policy framework to support sustainable transport, which includes low carbon modes of transport, energy efficiency and user-friendly transport initiatives, integration of transport and land use planning”.
In addition, GIZ together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Clean Air Asia, an NGO based in Manila, are also inviting participants from across Asia to a one-day side-event on the 27th of November on “The Role of Motorised Two-Wheelers in Sustainable Transport in Asia and the Future of Electric Two-Wheelers”. This workshop shall exchange information and experiences within Asia on policy definitions, regulations, and technical expertise addressing motorized two-wheelers.
Organised by the GIZ Transport and Climate Change (TCC) Project with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in the Philippines, the 3rd Expert Group on Sustainable Land Transport (EGSLT) Meeting and its related events shall be held in Makati Diamond Residences, Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
